The stuff
The OGGs are missing because I ran out of space and was too mean to pay for more. I will rectify this at some point, but it won't be until I've evaluated new hosts. The site's been up for years now and I'm sure I could get more for my money.
- Dogenzaka [ogg|mp3]. 20/5/08 - It's been a while. This is one of a few tracks that have been lying on my HD, getting attention only occasionally, for something like a year. I'll try and find the energy and time to finish some more. I've been playing "The World Ends With You" on the train, so this track is named after a district in Shibuya, Japan.
- Persona Grata [ogg|mp3]. 8/4/06 - Longest track I've ever created. Also one of my favourites.
- The Bombing [ogg|mp3]. 1/4/06 - I've been busy lately and had very little chance to mess with music. So I decided to spend no more than an hour on a track from start to finish. This is the result.
- Floopy [ogg|mp3]. 03/02/06 - Synthy strings and stringy synths, a jolly tune and, in my opinion, the best drum track I've managed so far.
- Slumpy [ogg|mp3]. 08/01/06 - Jolly synth twidlings, shuffling beat. The bass and main synth sounds are a few cycles sampled from my voice. Uses this sample, by Bram, on Freesound.
- The Fluff [ogg|mp3]. 22/12/05 - Ambient downbeat synthy twiddlings.
- Bent [ogg|mp3]. 22/12/05 - An exercise in pitch bending. More information in this blog posting.
- Rid [ogg|mp3]. 27/11/05 - Big bass, with crunchy bits. I have no idea what it is, but it was a lot of fun to do.
- Coastal [ogg|mp3]. 22/11/05 - I decided to try and do something a little more serious with my guitar.
- Howler [ogg|mp3]. 1/11/05 - I was messing around with my guitar and this little tune made me giggle, so I made it into this track, which had me in stitches.
- Blubber [ogg|mp3]. 23/10/05 - Downbeat, I suppose. It's a short one - less than 2:00
- Yet another [ogg|mp3]. 09/09/05 - Fun with piano and pitch bending. The style snaps from one thing to another about a third of the way in, so be prepared.
- Dark in here [ogg|mp3]. 01/09/05 - I really want a theremin. The theremin-like sound in this is just a pitch-bent sine wave. People keep asking me for more info on how I make tracks so, for the curious, all the samples are in dih_samps.ogg.
- Fling [ogg|mp3]. 19/08/05 - More music to walk to. Fairly jolly and good for a bright cold autumn morning.
- Unstuck [ogg|mp3]. 20/07/05 - Grew from playing with getting a sound like a real bass guitar. I'm not sure I'm finished with this - I like what I have, but it feels like it's not complete. I have no idea what to do with it, though.
- So Cold [ogg|mp3]. 24/07/05 - Something for when you're miserable. Downbeat, calm, walking music.
- Just Two [ogg|mp3]. 09/07/05 - More playing with guitars. Jamin works again so this sounds a lot fuller. I'd say fatter, but I'm ot sure if I should spell it with "ph" at the start.
- Calmer [ogg|mp3]. 07/07/05 - Short, guitary thing. Jamin kept crashing, so this isn't compressed or polished at all.
- ATT [ogg|mp3]. 31/05/05 - Something different. I woke up one morning with this tune in my head and had to try and get it out. Not having any musical training, this wasn't too easy, but I got there in the end.
- The Bang. 16/05/05 - Something I did over the weekend. It would be nice to have the guitar parts actually done by guitar, so if anyone feels like recording them for me... I think it sounds a little muddy, but I've been playing with it and this is the best I can do.
- Letsee. 13/05/05 - This one's been in the pipes for a few weeks. It's another one that I can't really put into a style or genre. I'm sure there's one for it, but I don't know what it is. Sounds a little like Ben Folds, The Flaming Lips and others. But not much.
- CreamCheese. Chilled out, pleasant, twangy electronica with beats. This was created in CheeseTracker, a great modern tracker for those of us that loved ScreamTracker and ImpulseTracker. Now able to use JACK for output - which is nice, because it allowed me to use ardour to record it. Check out all of these programs, they are Free (and free) and great. Just in case you're interested, that steel guitar sound is actually a pitch-bent piano.
- TBFW. Laid-back downbeat. Created with the same software as CreamCheese, although I used the excellent JACK timemachine for recording, rather than ardour.
- Beatfun. Started out as just a bit of fun playing with some old beat samples off an old Future Music cover disc, but turned into something I quite liked. Maybe you'll like it, too.
- Something Funny. Inspired by the cheeky "lovely" by Wagon Christ, this one's supposed to make you grin. The world really does need more cheese.
- Chamber. When I started with this one, I was after a strange echoey chamber sound. As you'll see, this is hardly present any more, but the name has stayed.
- Rewangled. 01/12/04 - Don't know what to say about this one. I like it, but then I would wouldn't I? Slow moving, but varies almost all the way through.
- Dumdum. 01/12/04 - I have a weakness for echoey synth noises. This is a bit of an outlet for it.
- dn505. 06/01/05 - More drum and bass, dark echoey grinding noises and broken beats.
- dumbstuff. 09/01/05 - Dumb beats, simple bass. Why do I find such stuff so hypnotic?
- Lay back. 12/01/05 - If anyone knows what kind of music this is, please tell me. My favourite so far.
- Jolly. 31/03/05 - A pleasant downbeat track. A bit different to my other stuff.
- Devoted. Nicked the opening guitar from the Everly Brothers track "Devoted to You". Apart from that riff, it's nothing like the original track. It's a bit fun and jolly.
Uses uncleared samples. Please don't sue me. - Clamshell. Nice relaxing reversed guitars. Guess where from?
Uses uncleared samples. Please don't sue me. - Growl. A bit dark and moody. Used the luvverly tweakable JAMin for processing.
Uses uncleared samples. Please don't sue me. - DaSub. Fast broken beats and a grumbling squelchy bassline. The beat used for this is just a single loop - all the variation is through using offsets and pitch-shifting. Aren't trackers great?
Uses uncleared samples. Please don't sue me. - Blade. 28/01/05 - Started out playing with something that sounded like the theme to Blade Runner (by Vangelis). It didn't continue like that.
Uses uncleared samples. Please don't sue me.
The Free ones
The non-Free ones (not that they cost anything)
These ones have uncleared samples, so no free license. This is a bit naughty, so promise me if you download them, you never ever listen to them? OK?
